ABOUT THE BLAIR HOUSE
Mendocino, California is a picturesque coastal town that boasts a rich history and breathtaking scenery. Among its most charming and historic landmarks is the Blair House, a beautiful Victorian home that celebrates the region’s beauty and embodies the town’s past.
Constructed in 1888 by Oliver Johnson, a prominent local builder and carpenter, the Blair House was owned by Elisha Blair, who arrived in Mendocino from Maine in 1857. After working as a mill hand at the Big River Mill for several years, Blair established himself as a financier in the town by lending money to other workers.
Elisha and his wife Hattie Emily Taylor welcomed their daughter Florence in 1884, just four years before the construction of the Blair House. At the time, it was considered one of Mendocino’s finest homes.
Today, the Blair House is one of Northern California’s most historic and luxurious retreats, offering guests an unforgettable stay. As visitors enter the picket fence gate, they are greeted by a garden filled with daffodils, daisies, and English lavender. The exterior of the house, which boasts a gabled roof and ornate woodwork, looks just as it did when it was built in 1888.
Inside, guests are welcomed by oriental rugs and Swedish and American antiques that adorn the Douglas Fir framing and flooring and the clearheart Redwood walls and foundation. The Blair House’s location oceanside allows guests to enjoy stunning ocean views, exquisite gardens, and plush queen-size beds, hand-crafted quilts, comforters, and featherbeds in each room.
Despite being tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Mendocino, the Blair House is just a short walk from downtown, offering guests breathtaking views of the surrounding redwoods from nearly every room. Come experience the ultimate in relaxation and luxury.
